A small excerpt from When the Wolf Dreams

And as I looked out into that darkening gloom, several flashes of lightning streaked across the sky, illuminating everything around me.  I closed my eyes instinctively, against that white hot light but not before I saw his shadow less than half a mile away from where I watched.  A rider, with a pack horse trailing behind him, riding slowly along the river bank, stopping often to lean over and look at the wet earth.  I knew what he was doing.  He was following our tracks.

When the Wolf Bites: Part I

“God, I remember when you used to wear it like this,” he said softly, almost wistfully.  “When you wore buckskins, with a sheath of arrows on your back and when you carried knives.  And a day never goes by when I don’t love you more than the day before.  But there it is.  That’s how I feel.  It’s quite extraordinary how much I love you.  I never knew such feelings were possible.  You sit opposite me at a dining table, within the glow of candlelight and I see no other woman in the room but you.  Or when I watch you sleeping , deep in the night, how do I bare it, such love.”
